Innovation - U.K. Department Store to Create 10,000 Homes

UK department store John Lewis has revealed its plans to become a residential landlord by converting its own shop car parks into rental housing across the UK.

Over the next decade, approximately 10,000 John Lewis homes will be built on sites that also include plots above the retailer's Waitrose supermarkets and next to its distribution centres.

Modular

Could open source architecture and digital fabrication help tackle the global housing crisis and make well-designed homes accessible and affordable for the many people? Danish architecture students, Johanne Holm-Jensen and Mia Behrens were invited do a six-month-long residency project at SPACE10.

Their task was to explore how to design low-cost, adaptable and sustainable homes that could be applicable globally and designed to be manufactured locally using a digital fabrication tool. Check out the result of their residency, link below.
