Architecture - Uedayama House by Écrit Architects 

Established six years ago, Écrit Architects has designed Uedayama House, a simple, yet generous home for a young couple and their two children in Nagoya. The narrow, but tall upper floor dining and kitchen area in particular stands out with its exposed beams and feature triangle windows at both ends.

Innovation - SPACE10

In August 2023, after nearly 10 years of collaboration with the owner of the IKEA brand, SPACE10 closed its doors. SPACE10 is the story of how a small team of radical thinkers emerged as one of the world’s most renowned research and design labs. They set out to create a space where people and ideas could meet and interact. They would explore ways to improve life at home, and ease our impact on the home we share — planet Earth. With a dedicated partner like IKEA, SPACE10 were able to scale their concepts and make them accessible and relevant for people around the world.

Designer - Kenya Hara

Tokyo graphic designer Kenya Hara’s name is synonymous with the changing face of contemporary Japanese design. From his brilliantly simple design work of bookstores to branding for the Beijing Olympics, Hara wrote the design bible, ‘Designing Design’ in 2007. In 1992 he founded Hara Design Institute working in the entire design spectrum, from advertising to branding, exhibit design, sign systems, packaging, products, and books. In 2001 he was appointed Muji’s art director by Ikko Tanaka, a master of Japanese graphic design who was its former art director. Since then, he both develops communication design and helps the company to formulate an integrated vision.

Watch - La Haine

Mathieu Kassovitz took the film world by storm with La Haine, a gritty, unsettling, and visually explosive look at the racial and cultural volatility in modern-day France, specifically the low-income banlieue districts (estates) on Paris’s outskirts. Like tower blocks, they were originally a well-intentioned solution to inner-city slum houses but have gone on to suffer their own problems. A work of tough beauty, La Haine is a landmark of contemporary French cinema and a gripping reflection of its country’s ongoing identity crisis.
