Archive: Pod Hotel, Miami

The inspiration for the Pod Hotel derives from a building type popular throughout Asia, specifically Japan and Malaysia, known as “Capsule” hotels. The surge in personal travel coupled with the rising costs of accommodation has spurred the popularity of these micro hotels. Typical hotel room sizes in major cities are shrinking, luxury amenities are scaled back to reduce operating costs and the impetus on experiential activities is enhanced.

Pencil Building

On a site just 3.8 metres wide near Kumagaya Station, Ono Architect Office and Sigma Construction have built a three-story wooden pencil building in Japan that connects two streets while housing a vintage store and rental tenants. The client has been running a second-hand clothing store in the area for many years, so the plan places the store and office on the top floor while renting out the first and second floors. The building also functions as a passage, allowing people to walk through from the station side to the quieter street behind.

Every Note Counts is an encounter between two uncompromising minds: Krug Cellar Master Julie Cavil and genre-defying composer, pianist, and producer Max Richter. A dialogue driven by a shared pursuit of precision and experimentation. Drawing inspiration from every note of Krug Clos d’Ambonnay 2008, Krug 2008, and Krug Grande Cuvée 164ème Édition, Max Richter envisioned three musical pieces: Clarity, Ensemble, and Sinfonia – three variations on 2008. From vineyard to studio, from Reims to Oxfordshire, this is an exploration of a shared vision: that craft lies in the detail. A testament that – whether in Champagne or in music – every note counts.
