House in Hirano

The flagpole lot is a Japanese urban condition so common it has become almost invisible. A narrow access path leads to a building site surrounded entirely by neighbouring structures—no views, no natural orientation, no obvious way to bring light or air to interior spaces. For a family of five in Osaka's Hirano district, Fujiwaramuro Architects accepted these constraints as the starting point for something unexpected.

Nestled within the floating art installation Salmon Eye and framed by the majestic Hardangerfjord in Norway, the Michelin-starred Restaurant Iris invites guests into a world of sustainable gourmet excellence. The restaurant’s interior, crafted by Norm Architects, masterfully contrasts and complements the innovative, ellipsoid architecture designed by Kvorning Design. Earth House

Caught between a busy intersection and a peaceful green corridor, the Earth House in Aichi, Japan, is a masterclass in finding stillness amid chaos. Architect Ken Nishiguchi designed this personal tribute for his parents, using a low, sloping roof and continuous garden spaces to seamlessly bridge the two worlds. Inspired by the raw strength of a mountain quarry, the home is literally built from the land: rugged granite walls, warm cedar bark cladding, and a timeless slate roof. Every element anchors the home, not just in its surroundings, but in family memory. This isn’t just a house—it’s an enduring form that proves architecture can root people and nature together.
