Infill Urbanism - 1234 Howard Street

An urban site in San Francisco, 50'x165' stretches from Howard Street on one side to Natoma Street on the other. A one-way drive, with parking on one side and lobby and circulation on the other, link the two streets. Above the drive a court, carved through the block, the building is divided into three equal bars with internal courtyards. This apartment complex provides more privacy to accommodate family living and unlike typical urban housing, these units have abundant light from windows that front the internal court and the street.

Designer Spotlight - 2022 Palm Springs Modernism Week

The 2022 Palm Springs Modernism Week, celebrated from 17 – 28 February, 2022 will showcase desert buildings and modernist architecture. If you can’t wait that long, the Fall Preview taking place 14-17 October, 2021 is a four-day long “mini-Modernism Week” featuring more than 50 events that include a walking tour of Frank Sinatra’s neighborhood and a visit to the Frey House II.

Innovation - Cambridge Central Mosque

A sustainable mosque in Cambridge that draws on local architecture while incorporating traditional Islamic design aspects, including geometric patterns that symbolize the infinite.

The building, which replaces an old mosque that had become too small for the congregation, was designed around the idea of a "calm oasis of contemplation" situated within a grove of trees and informed by the garden of paradise.

The studio embodied this vision in the very structure of the 2,340-square-metre mosque, using timber to create tree-like pillars that join to form an interwoven, octagonal canopy that holds up its roof.

Surrounding the tree-like pillars are structural timber walls made from cross-laminated timber (CLT) clad in masonry tiles. These have been topped with a castellated parapet to symbolise the meeting of heaven and earth, around the domed roof.
