The Craft of Karimoku Furniture

Karimoku Furniture founder Shohei Kato began working with wood in 1940, when he inherited a lumber business and established a woodworking shop in Aichi Prefecture. The company honed its craft through years of producing domestic items such as components for sewing machines and musical instruments and, in the early 1960s, finally began to produce original furniture — the beginnings of the leading Japanese furniture brand known globally today.

The Eames Archives

The Eames Institute launches a new home for Eames Archives in Richmond, as part of its plan to open its treasures in the Bay Area headquarters to public tours. Ray and Charles Eames’s boundless curiosity and passion for problem-solving drove a practice that spanned furniture, architecture, film, exhibition design, and more. The Eames Archives holds one of the world’s most significant Eames collections—40,000+ objects, including industrial designs, prototypes, ephemera, tools, and personal items the pioneering design duo created and collected.

Home Court

Reigning Champ and Canadian industrial designer Calen Knauf present Home Court. The classic arcade concept is remastered through the use of democratic raw materials — wood, glass, and metal — to build a fully functional gaming experience and highly crafted work of art.

The game replicates the authentic sounds of playing on a classic hardwood court and incorporates floating design components to minimize visual footprint. Durable tempered glass support a backboard and ball return surface, made of specially engineered composite wood panels to ensure structural and auditory quality while being less prone to warping.

The T46 Coffee Table

The T46 is an equilateral triangle which is formed from seven layers of laminated veneer, creating a simple, elegant coffee table. Designed in 1946 by Hein Stolle the T46 was never put into production until 2001 when Isokon Plus discovered this beautiful piece and gained the rights to produce it.
