Contemporary Japanese Design on Star Island, Miami Beach Royal Byckovas’ latest residential interiors project defines a new 15,400 sq ft private residence in Miami Beach with a minimalist approach, inspired by the principles of modern Japanese architecture. The design concepts are anchored by clean lines, natural materials and a seamless living connection between the interior spaces, terraces and water features that frame the architecture and landscape. Expansive family living areas are balanced with intimate retreats throughout the home, creating a sanctuary of calm sophistication. Contemporary craftsmanship and design set against the backdrop of Miami’s tropical landscape harmoniously fuse to set a new standard for luxury living in Miami.

LA Bus Stops

Los Angeles is proving the true potential of a bus shelter with a network of smart, modular bus stops inspired by Californian modernism. Designed by US studio Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) with the help of Designworks, Studio One Eleven and Tranzito-Vector, the new shelters can adapt to meet the needs of various communities. Every model features digital displays with real-time bus arrivals, weather information and alerts. When space allows, it can stretch to include bike racks or e-lockers and components can be easily swapped or repaired.

Lifeworld

The modern age has made our city centers synonymous with advertising and consumerism. In 2024, a time when marketing could be as insidious as it could be explicit, award-winning Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson turned the enormous, crisp, blindingly bright LED screens in our cities that are usually saved for advertising purposes into “Lifeworld”: a project commissioned by CIRCA that showed blurry works of art that are deliberately left up to interpretation.

Magazine C

From the team behind Magazine B, the South Korean brand-documentary publication, Magazine C is a quarterly periodical for furniture obsessives. Every edition is dedicated to a single chair, exploring the people, craft and stories behind the chosen design, starting with Jean Prouvé’s Standard chair, Thonet’s No 14 model and the Louis Ghost chair by Philippe Starck. Compact and sleek, it has a considered aesthetic and its limited use of bright colours and crisp photography gives it a premium feel. Meanwhile, its familiar, neutral serif typeface FK Roman Standard adds a touch of personality.

Bofumil Sendagaya Café

A 3.3 m² Tokyo parking spot becomes a living lab for a Seoul café’s rebirth, merging architecture and coffee culture in Jo Nagasaka + Schemata Architects's experimental micro-intervention. Tucked into the pared-back, post-industrial fabric of Tokyo's Sendagaya neighborhood, Bohumil sendagaya is less a café than a living prototype. Designed by Jo Nagasaka in collaboration with his firm, this ephemeral outpost of Seoul’s Bohumil Coffee occupies a 3.3 m² parking space at the edge of Schemata Architects’ own office.
