Brickell Park Restaurant

Overview

Nestled within the vibrant urban fabric of Miami’s central business district sits Brickell Park. A dense pocket of mature oak trees, this small oasis is a rare urban green space. Rather than imposing itself within the site, the proposed architecture seeks to celebrate and protect the park’s existing ecology and allow the building’s form to coexist within the dense tree canopy.

The restaurant is conceived as a raised, lightweight modular structure, delicately hovering above the park’s lush ground plane. Drawing from the rustic charm of traditional Italian farmhouses; timber, local stone, and expansive glazed openings define the palette, lending a warmth and authenticity to the building while honoring the existing site context.

The extents of the building footprint is carefully calibrated to avoid disruption to the existing tree root systems, thereby preserving the site's natural richness. The existing vegetative canopy shrouds the building’s exterior terraces, functioning as a natural regulator of light and shade, echoing the layered densities of the surrounding park.

The expansive vegetative canopy mitigates heat gain, providing passive cooling throughout the year.

The building’s transparent edges and open-air dining terrace blur the line between interior and exterior, ensuring that every part of the dining experience remains intimately connected to the landscape.

Inside, the restaurant is organized under a vaulted roof that accentuates the verticality of the tree canopy and permits breezes, light, and views to flow seamlessly through the space, enhancing the sensation of dining within a garden.

The architectural proposal redefines urban hospitality by positioning the architecture as a steward of nature. It offers an immersive, sustainable dining experience that respects the past, celebrates the present, and safeguards the future of Miami’s disappearing urban green spaces.
